At Eckhardt Dental Centre in Penticton, our dentists offer dental sedation options to make patients more comfortable during long procedures, and to calm anxious patients.
What is Dental Sedation?
Dental sedation refers to a variety of techniques used to make patients more comfortable during dental procedures. Sedation needs are evaluated on a case by case basis, our dentists can help determine whether dental sedation is right for you.
At Eckhardt Dental Centre, we do everything we can to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable during their dental appointments. In addition to offering sedation options, we will work at your pace, take breaks when you need them, and provide calm reassurance as needed.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is inhaled through the mouth and nose. This medication calms patients even though they remain awake and able to communicate. Nitrous Oxide may also help to lessen anxiety, increase pain threshold, reduce gag reflex and make time pass more quickly.
Oral sedatives are pills or liquids prescribed by your dentist. These medications are taken orally in advance of a dental appointment. Oral sedation leaves you awake for the procedure, but produces a calming effect to significantly relax you.
The deepest level of sedation without general anesthesia, IV sedatives are administered by your dentist directly into the blood-stream through a vein. You will be attached to a monitor so that the dentist can keep track of vital signs during the procedure.
